Step by step

Getting ashore

Ships dock at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal at the V&A Waterfront (Duncan Dock area).

  1. 1
    Walk into the Waterfront

Shops, restaurants and the Robben Island ferry are steps away.

  2. 2
    Head up Table Mountain

The cableway is about 15 minutes by taxi or Uber.

  3. 3
    Explore the Cape

Cape Point, the winelands and Boulders Beach are day trips.

💡 Pro move: Check the Table Mountain cableway status before you go — strong winds close it at short notice.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Cape Town

Table Mountain has a wheelchair route at the summit, while Cape Point's funicular stops below its final lighthouse stairs. These famous viewpoints are not interchangeable.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Table Mountain Cableway

Lifts and mapped summit circuit

The cableway's wheelchair guide identifies lifts to cable-car boarding, adapted toilets at both stations and a partly accessible upper loop. Follow the marked wheelchair circuit and avoid its stair branches.

Official access information ↗

Cape Point

Funicular accessible; summit still has stairs

SANParks says the funicular reaches a lookout but not the summit beacon, which requires stairs. It also warns of steep ramps near toilets and restaurant areas, so assistance may be necessary.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Choose the cableway's mapped circuit in suitable weather, or a preplanned Cape Point outing that excludes the lighthouse stairs.

Confirm before booking

  • Current cableway operation and weather closures.
  • Vehicle access, ramp gradients and assistance at the specific viewpoint selected.
