🧜 Copenhagen

Copenhagen is stylish, friendly and bike-loving — Nyhavn's painted townhouses, Tivoli Gardens, royal palaces and the Little Mermaid. It's a major Baltic homeport and an easy city to explore on foot, by bike or by boat.

Step by step

Getting ashore

Ships dock at Langelinie (near the Little Mermaid, walkable to the centre) or at the Oceankaj terminals in Nordhavn (further out, metro/shuttle needed).

  1. 1
    Check your terminal

Langelinie is a 20–30 minute walk to Nyhavn; Oceankaj needs the metro or a shuttle.

  2. 2
    Explore the harbour

The Little Mermaid, Kastellet and Amalienborg Palace are along the way to Nyhavn.

  3. 3
    Ride a canal boat

Boats leave from Nyhavn for an easy overview.

💡 Pro move: The canal boat tour from Nyhavn is the best introduction to Copenhagen — and you see the Little Mermaid without the crowds.

Insider tips

  • 🚲
Watch the bike lanes. Cyclists have right of way — don't stand in the lanes.
  • 💳
Cards everywhere. Cash is rarely needed.
  • 🥐
Try a real Danish. Called wienerbrød locally.
  • 🎢
Tivoli opening hours. It's seasonal — check before you go.
  • 🚇
Metro is fast. Nordhavn station serves Oceankaj.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Copenhagen

Tivoli has staffed wheelchair entrances and accessible facilities; Rosenborg's historic interior has stairs and no lift. These are substantially different shore-day choices.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Tivoli Gardens

Accessible entrances; rides have transfer rules

Use staffed entrances on Bernstorffsgade or Vesterbrogade. Tivoli lists accessible toilets and loan chairs, but staff cannot lift guests into rides; ride evacuation ability also matters.

Official access information ↗

Rosenborg Castle

No elevator or disability lift

The Royal Collection describes stairs, narrow doorways and no lift. Its limited ground-floor and treasury access still requires assistance on steps, so this is not an independent step-free castle visit.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Choose Tivoli gardens and dining with confirmed transport; include rides only after checking their individual requirements.

Confirm before booking

  • Current construction affecting Tivoli entrances or toilets.
  • Cruise terminal and ramp-equipped transfer, particularly for larger powered devices.
