🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Edinburgh

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle's cobbles and gradients remain relevant even with its mobility vehicle. A museum visit offers a different physical demand from a castle-and-Royal-Mile walk.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Edinburgh Castle

Mobility vehicle with size limits

The castle provides a vehicle to Crown Square on request, subject to device dimensions and a 150-kg limit. It cannot operate around the One O'Clock Gun period. Uneven cobbles remain near facilities.

National Museum of Scotland

Gallery lifts and ramps

The museum documents ramps and lifts to its exhibitions and galleries, with induction loops at information desks and the auditorium. It is a useful indoor alternative to an extended hill itinerary.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Agree your castle vehicle suitability in advance or focus on the museum, using transport between sites rather than assuming the whole city walk is manageable.

Confirm before booking
