Step by step

Getting ashore

Ships dock at the Montego Bay Cruise Terminal on the Freeport peninsula. Licensed taxis and tour operators wait outside the terminal; the Hip Strip is about 10 minutes away.

  1. 1
    Use a licensed taxi

Look for JUTA or red PP plates and agree the fare first.

  2. 2
    Hit the beach

Doctor's Cave Beach on the Hip Strip has clear water and facilities.

  3. 3
    Or head inland

Martha Brae rafting and Rose Hall are 20–40 minutes away.

💡 Pro move: Dunn's River Falls is about 90 minutes each way from here — on a short call, choose Martha Brae or Rose Hall instead.

Port-specific access notes

Mobility & accessibility in Montego Bay

Ships dock, so there's no tender, but sightseeing depends on vehicle transfers and the terminal area is busy.

Planning notes prepared October 25, 2026 for this new guide. Operator access statements have not yet been individually checked, and this is not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Doctor's Cave Beach

Sand beach with facilities

Ask the beach club whether there's step-free access to the sand and an accessible restroom.

Martha Brae rafting

Boarding requires a step down

Rafts sit low on the water; ask the operator whether assisted boarding is possible.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Book a van with a lift or ramp to a beach club or Rose Hall's ground floor.

Confirm before booking

  • Does the vehicle have a lift or ramp, and will it carry your device?
  • Which parts of Rose Hall are accessible without stairs?
