🌅 Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a charming Mexican Riviera port on Banderas Bay, backed by the jungle-covered Sierra Madre. Cobblestone streets, the seaside Malecón with its sculptures and great food make it a favourite.

M
Melody's pickI'd take a water taxi to Las Ánimas or Yelapa. Reaching a beach you can only get to by boat feels like an adventure, and the views of the jungle-covered coast are spectacular. Lunch on the sand is a must.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Puerto Vallarta

A supported beach day near Puerto Vallarta can be planned around FIBBA in Nuevo Nayarit; a ramp ending at sand should not be mistaken for independent sea access.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

FIBBA beach, Nuevo Nayarit

Ramps and amphibious/sand chairs documented

Bahía de Banderas' municipal tourism catalogue identifies the public FIBBA entrance at Boulevard Nuevo Vallarta and Paseo de los Cocoteros. It lists ramps to the sand, beach/sea chairs, public bathrooms and showers. These facilities require a road transfer from Puerto Vallarta, not simply exiting the cruise terminal.

Official access information ↗

Cerro de la Cruz lookout

Uphill hike with many steps

Puerto Vallarta's official tourism guide warns that reaching this downtown lookout involves uphill hiking and many steps. Its casual description as an 'accessible landmark' is not a wheelchair certification. Choose a different viewpoint unless the actual approach fits your abilities.

Official access information ↗

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: arrange an adapted vehicle and reserve beach equipment at FIBBA for a focused beach day; agree transfer assistance before entering an amphibious chair.

Confirm before booking

  • Equipment availability, staffing and accessible toilet details on your date.
  • The ramp-to-sand endpoint and whether assistance extends to water entry.
  • Adapted transport and enough return time across the bay.
