🗻 Yokohama (Tokyo)

Yokohama is Tokyo's cruise port — a stylish harbour city with Japan's largest Chinatown, waterfront parks and the Minato Mirai skyline. Central Tokyo is 30–60 minutes away by train, and Kamakura's Great Buddha is close by.

Step by step

Getting ashore

Ships dock at Osanbashi Pier in central Yokohama or, for larger ships, at Daikoku Pier on an industrial island.

  1. 1
    Know your pier

Osanbashi is walkable to Chinatown and Minato Mirai; Daikoku needs a shuttle or taxi.

  2. 2
    Get an IC card

Buy a Suica or PASMO (or use your phone) for trains.

  3. 3
    Train to Tokyo

Minatomirai Line/Tokyu Toyoko Line to Shibuya, or JR to Tokyo Station.

💡 Pro move: Japan's trains are punctual and easy with an IC card — but avoid rush hours with luggage.

Insider tips

  • 🚆
Get an IC card. Suica/PASMO works on trains, buses and in shops.
  • 🌸
Cherry blossom. Late March to early April is magical — and busy.
  • 💴
Carry some cash. Many small places are cash-only.
  • 🙇
Etiquette matters. Queue neatly and keep voices low on trains.
  • 🗻
Fuji visibility. Clearest on winter mornings.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Yokohama (Tokyo)

Yokohama publishes accessible model routes through its waterfront districts. This supports a local shore day without assuming a long Tokyo transfer or every garden path is accessible.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Kaiko Promenade waterfront

Official accessible model course

The city tourism guide links wheelchair-friendly model routes connecting Red Brick Warehouse, Yamashita Park and Chinatown. Use the detailed route map and accessible toilets, rather than a general pedestrian shortcut.

Official access information ↗

Sankeien Garden

Loan chairs documented; full route unverified

Sankeien offers a limited number of free loan wheelchairs at its main and south gates. This confirms equipment provision, not access to every historic building or hillside path; request a suitable circuit before adding the garden.

Official access information ↗

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Choose the official waterfront route with a preconfirmed transfer, adding Sankeien only after the garden agrees an appropriate circuit.

Confirm before booking

  • Actual cruise berth, as not all terminals have the same city connection.
  • Garden path gradients, building access and essential wheelchair availability.
