Step by step

Getting ashore

Ships berth at the Aruba Cruise Terminal in downtown Oranjestad, a few steps from the shops and the free streetcar.

  1. 1
    Walk into Oranjestad

Main Street (Caya G.F. Betico Croes) and the waterfront are steps away.

  2. 2
    Taxi to a beach

Eagle Beach is about 10 minutes; Palm Beach about 15 — taxis queue at the terminal.

  3. 3
    Or take the bus

Arubus buses run from the central station along the beaches.

💡 Pro move: Aruba is dry and the sun is strong but the breeze hides it — reapply sunscreen more often than you think.

M
Melody's pickI'd head straight to Eagle Beach. It's one of the most beautiful beaches I know: wide, soft and never feels crammed, with those famous windswept fofoti trees for photos. If you'd like a little more snorkelling, Arashi is a lovely second choice.

Insider tips

  • 🌬️
Hold on to your hat. Steady trade winds make it feel cooler than it is.
  • 🦩
Flamingo Beach needs a hotel pass. It's on a private island; day passes are very limited.
  • 💵
US dollars are accepted everywhere. Change is often given in florins.
  • 🚌
Arubus is cheap. Buses run every 15–20 minutes to the beaches.
  • 🧴
No-shade beaches. Rent an umbrella or palapa early.

Getting around

  • 1
Taxis wait at the terminal and charge fixed fares by destination rather than using meters.
  • 2
Confirm the fare before you get in; it's per taxi, not per person.
  • 3
Public buses also run along the hotel strip to Eagle and Palm Beach for a small fare.
Good to know: The trade winds keep Aruba feeling cool, so it's easy to burn. Reapply reef-safe sunscreen more often than you think you need to.

Quick answers

Aruba cruise port FAQ

How far is Eagle Beach from the cruise port?

It's a short taxi ride, typically around 10 minutes from the terminal.

Do I need Aruban florins?

No. US dollars are accepted everywhere on the island.

What's the best beach in Aruba for snorkelling?

Arashi, Boca Catalina and Mangel Halto are the favourites for snorkelling from shore.

Will it rain on my Aruba port day?

Probably not. Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt and gets very little rain all year.

Tours, prices, transport fares and pier assignments change. Always confirm with the operator, your cruise line and your ship's all-aboard time before relying on anything here.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Aruba

Aruba has specialist adapted vehicles and beach-wheelchair rentals, but a resort promenade, sand crossing and water entry are separate access arrangements.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Adapted island transport

Lift and ramp providers identified by tourism authority

Aruba’s tourism authority lists LiteLife Medicab hydraulic-lift/ramp vans and We Welcome Wheelchairs adapted transfers and tours. Book the actual vehicle and securement suited to your chair instead of relying on an ordinary taxi.

Official access information ↗

Beach day

Reserve beach or amphibious equipment

The same authority lists beach-wheelchair services, including delivery to a chosen beach. Its beach guide warns that Eagle Beach involves substantial sand and Boca Catalina has steps from parking; a nearby parking place alone does not provide a continuous wheelchair route.

Official access information ↗

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Combine a reserved adapted island drive with a beach stop only where the sand route, beach chair and transfer assistance have all been arranged.

Confirm before booking

  • Can the vehicle secure your occupied device?
  • Where will beach equipment be delivered, who assists the transfer and does the plan include safe water entry or only shoreline viewing?
