Cozumel is the Caribbean's most visited cruise port — an island famous for crystal-clear reef snorkelling and diving, beach clubs and easy ferry hops to the Mayan ruins on the mainland. Ships dock at three piers along the west coast.

Step by step
Getting ashore
Cozumel has three cruise piers on the west coast. Punta Langosta is in downtown San Miguel; International Pier and Puerta Maya are a few kilometres south.
1
Check your pier
It changes daily depending on ships in port; it's listed in your daily planner.
2
Walk or taxi to town
From Punta Langosta, walk into San Miguel. From International or Puerta Maya, taxis to town take 10–15 minutes.
3
Head for the water
Reef boats leave from the piers; beach clubs are 10–25 minutes south by taxi.
💡 Pro move: Use reef-safe sunscreen only — it's required in the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park.

Melody's pickNachi Cocom is my pick. They limit the number of guests, so it feels calm and spacious, and your food and drinks are included. It's exactly how I like to spend a day ashore: relaxed, beautiful and effortless.

🚶 San Miguel waterfront

Along the malecón from Punta Langosta to the main square, the ferry pier and local restaurants on Avenida 5.
Only from Punta Langosta, which is right in downtown San Miguel. From the International Pier and Puerta Maya, take a short taxi ride.
Do I need Mexican pesos?
Not usually. US dollars are widely accepted, but small bills help, and you may get change in pesos.
Is Cozumel safe for cruise passengers?
Cozumel is one of the most visited cruise ports in the world and is generally considered safe. Use the official taxis and normal travel common sense.
Can I visit the Mayan ruins from Cozumel?
Yes. Tulum and other mainland sites are reached by ferry to Playa del Carmen plus a drive, which makes a long day. Book a tour that guarantees your return.
What's the best thing to do with only a few hours?
Snorkel close to shore at a beach club or Chankanaab, or explore San Miguel's waterfront and enjoy a long lunch with a view.
Tours, prices, transport fares and pier assignments change. Always confirm with the operator, your cruise line and your ship's all-aboard time before relying on anything here.

Port-specific access research
Mobility & accessibility in Cozumel
Cozumel has a specifically advertised Chankanaab excursion for full-time wheelchair users; the accessible tour specification should guide booking rather than the park name alone.
Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.
Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice
Accessible Chankanaab National Park
Full-time wheelchair tour with lift
Disney identifies this particular Chankanaab excursion as suitable for full-time wheelchair users requiring a lift. Reserve that departure and device space explicitly; a standard Chankanaab ticket or taxi does not reproduce the same vehicle and route arrangements.
Ramp/lift and step-free itinerary; beach-water access separate
Norwegian specifies shorter step-free routes, wide-door accessible restrooms and limited ramp/lift vehicle spaces. Device dimensions and weight must be submitted. The beach stop does not itself establish assistance into the sea or an amphibious chair; guides cannot push wheelchairs.
Planning suggestion: make the confirmed adapted Chankanaab route the core outing. Treat snorkeling, dolphin encounters and beach-water entry as additional activities needing their own transfer assessment.
