⛵ Fort Lauderdale

Port Everglades is the easiest big homeport in Florida — the airport, beach and hotels are all within 10–15 minutes. Use a spare day for the canals of the 'Venice of America', a beach morning or an Everglades airboat ride.

Step by step

Getting ashore

Port Everglades wraps around a deep harbour south of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Terminals are numbered and spread over three areas, so give your driver the exact number.

  1. 1
    Get to your terminal

From FLL it's a 10-minute drive. Your boarding documents list the terminal number.

  2. 2
    Drop off luggage

Porters take your bags at the kerb — tip a few dollars per bag.

  3. 3
    Security & boarding

Check-in typically takes 30–60 minutes at your assigned time.

💡 Pro move: Fort Lauderdale is often cheaper to fly into than Miami, and transfers are much shorter — great if you're sailing from either port.

Terminal sources reviewed October 17, 2026: linked port terminal pages and Royal Caribbean’s departure guide. The dedicated Disney terminal is 4, but Disney’s arrival guidance can identify another terminal. Follow your sailing’s instructions. Do not assume Viking always uses Terminal 26.

  • ⛴️
Ride the Water Taxi. An all-day pass doubles as transport and a scenic tour.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Fort Lauderdale

Bonnet House provides a ramped first-floor visit and an accessible grounds cart, but the upstairs tour explicitly requires twenty stairs.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Bonnet House interiors

First-floor ramps; upstairs stairs-only

Ramps serve first-floor exhibit rooms and front-door vehicle drop-off can be arranged. The separate Upstairs Downstairs tour requires climbing twenty stairs, so do not treat it as the same access level as the standard visit.

Official access information ↗

Bonnet House gardens

Accessible cart; uneven nature paths

The estate lists a wheelchair-accessible golf cart and accessible Welcome Center restrooms. Nature-trail and coral-rock paths may be uneven. Reserve assistance and confirm cart availability rather than relying on walking the entire grounds.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: Arrange a standard first-floor visit and preconfirmed grounds cart with a suitable Port Everglades transfer.

Confirm before booking

  • Is the accessible cart operating and can it carry your occupied chair?
  • Can your driver use the main-house drop-off and return there after the visit?
