🐟 Ketchikan

Ketchikan is the 'Salmon Capital of the World' and the first Alaska stop on many Inside Passage cruises. Its historic Creek Street boardwalk, totem poles and floatplanes to Misty Fjords make it a perfect introduction to Alaska.

Step by step

Getting ashore

NCL, Oceania and Regent ships dock at Ward Cove, several miles north of town — take the shuttle bus into downtown. All other cruise ships dock or tender at Front Street, right in town.

  1. 1
    Step into downtown

At Front Street the visitor centre is at the dock. From Ward Cove, ride the shuttle into downtown first.

  2. 2
    Walk to Creek Street

The colourful boardwalk over Ketchikan Creek is 5 minutes away.

  3. 3
    Meet your tour

Floatplane and boat tours depart near the docks.

💡 Pro move: Ketchikan is very rainy — bring a rain jacket and you'll enjoy it whatever the weather.

Port-specific access research

Mobility & accessibility in Ketchikan

Ketchikan's Totem Heritage Center has a documented wheelchair-ramp project, but a museum entrance improvement does not certify the full walking tour reaching it.

Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.

Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice

Totem Heritage Center

City records a completed access ramp

The city's 2022 financial report records the Totem Heritage Center wheelchair-access ramp among assets placed in service. This establishes an entrance improvement, not the dimensions of every gallery or restroom. Confirm the current entrance arrangement for your device.

Official access information ↗

City Park approach to the museum

Path improvements identified, not certified complete

The borough's parks plan notes tourists using City Park on the way to the museum and recommends repairing concrete paths and replacing gravel with concrete. These are recommendations; use a prechecked street or vehicle approach rather than assuming the park shortcut is accessible.

A practical way to plan this port

Planning suggestion: arrange direct access to the Heritage Center and select nearby stops by their actual surfaces, avoiding an unassessed park or hillside shortcut.

Confirm before booking

  • Downtown berth versus Ward Cove and adapted shuttle availability.
  • Current museum ramp, toilet and scooter maneuvering space.
  • The exact Creek Street/park route included in a guided walk.
