Sailing from New York means a once-in-a-lifetime sail-away past the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. There are three cruise terminals in three different boroughs and states, so the first job is knowing which one is yours — then make time for a Broadway show or a skyline view.

Step by step
Getting ashore
New York has three cruise terminals: Manhattan Cruise Terminal (West 46th–54th St on the Hudson), Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, and Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey.
1
Confirm your terminal
They're 30–60 minutes apart in traffic. Your documents name the terminal — double-check before booking transport.
2
Allow for traffic
Manhattan traffic and tunnel delays are real; leave a generous buffer, especially on weekends.
3
Drop bags and board
Porters take luggage at the kerb; security and check-in take 30–60 minutes.
💡 Pro move: For the best sail-away, grab a spot on an upper aft or starboard deck about 30 minutes after departure — the Statue of Liberty appears on your right heading out.

Port-specific access research
Mobility & accessibility in New York
New York offers accessible museum visits, but a Statue pedestal ticket does not guarantee wheelchair access onto its historic outside balcony.
Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.
Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice
MoMA
Loan chairs, rollators and portable stools
MoMA offers manual wheelchairs in several sizes, rollators and portable stools at entrances on a first-come basis. Sensory kits are available from named information points, providing useful support for a self-paced gallery day.
NPS describes a ranger-operated pedestal lift, but says wheelchairs cannot go onto the outside balcony. A transfer may allow some visitors to continue; travelers unable to transfer should agree their actual viewing route before buying.
Planning suggestion: Choose a focused MoMA visit or a separately confirmed Liberty Island day, with a transfer from your actual Manhattan or Brooklyn cruise terminal.
Confirm before booking
Which cruise terminal are you using, and is the transfer suitable for an occupied chair?
If visiting the monument, which ferry and pedestal spaces can you use without transferring?
