Mobility & accessibility in Astoria
Astoria offers accessible maritime galleries and Column grounds, but the lightship and Column summit are different physical challenges.
Published sources reviewed October 17, 2026. This is desk research, not an on-site access audit. Access can change with the ship, berth, equipment and operating conditions.
Attractions and excursions: what changes the choice
Columbia River Maritime Museum
Most galleries accessible; selected exhibits excluded
The museum identifies the south door as its barrier-free entrance and permits wheelchairs and seated mobility scooters. Most galleries and the theater are accessible; the Lightship Columbia, selected pilot-house/bridge exhibits and Brix mezzanine are not. Parking-to-building routes cross railroad tracks.
The city lists a disabled-access restroom and picnic area, but reaching the tower's viewing deck requires 164 spiral steps. A ground-level viewpoint visit is a different itinerary from climbing the Column.
Planning suggestion: combine museum ground-level galleries with a vehicle trip to the Column grounds, leaving the lightship and tower ascent out of a step-free day.
